We had planned to sit outside but the late April sun still shone too hot so we opted for the couch at the far side of Pierre's bar, beneath the canoe artfully perched on the wall. The drinks were varied and sublime but soon it was time to move upstairs to the balcony for our dinner. The sun shades adjusted to keep the heat down, we settled in for one more cocktail, and a bottle of Shafer cab. The onion soup? Excellent and hot enough to make me forget the sun. The foie gras? My table mates raved. It's not pate, it's the actual liver so you're getting the real thing. If you're unfamiliar with sous vide cooking, learn how the experts do it by ordering the veal cheeks. Triple tail was on the menu so two of us ventured there to great acclaim. The place is expensive but they deliver value. As the sun set, the shades went up, the breeze came alive and the view through the palms made the setting perfect. I'm hard to impress. I was impressed. My only regret? The party of four celebrating a birthday at an adjacent table failed to offer us a slice of their cake even though we sang along. Oh, well. read more
